Halloween Inspired Food - Black Soybean Pasta Recipe

Halloween is quickly creeping up on us and currently we are loving all things Halloween. To go with the Halloween theme, we wanted a dish that is dark and spooky but hidden with a full burst of flavors. We have been seeing this black spooky pasta with eyeballs photos all over the internet, so we wanted to create our very own version of this pasta dish.

Many people like to use black food color to stain/color their pasta but we didn't want to take that route. Luckily we found this Black Soy Bean Spaghetti at Aldi, and it was perfect for our dish. This pasta has a very unique texture to it, very different from your regular spaghetti. Looking at this dish will give you chills. We used mozzarella cheese pearls with olives to create eyeballs. We love the black and white contrast of color in this dish. Fortunately, the mozzarella cheese and olives complement the sweet, spicy and tangy sauce perfectly. Lately, we have been obsessed with Korean food and sauces, so for this dish we used a combination of the famous Korean gochujang sauce and Korean black bean paste. This sauce mixture turned out perfect!

It is a perfect dish for any halloween party, you will for sure impress your guests with it's taste and eye-catching presentation. This is also a great food idea for monster, zombie, or any spooky theme party. Have no party planned? No worries, skip making the eyeballs and transform it into a simple and delicious dinner dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 packet/7.05 oz of Black Soybean Spaghetti

  • 2 tbsp of Black Bean Paste

  • 1 tbsp of Gochujang

  • 2 Garlic Cloves (minced)

  • 2 tbsp of Water

  • 2 tsp of Sugar

  • 1 tsp of Vinegar

  • 2 tsp of Sweet Soy Sauce

  • 3 tsp/1 tbsp of Granulated Chicken Flavor Soup Base Mix

  • 2 tbsp of Unsalted Butter (melted)

  • 2 tsp of Sesame Oil (optional)

  • 8 pieces of Mozzarella Cheese Snacks/Mozzarella Cheese Pearls

  • 8 pieces of Sliced Black Olives

Instructions:

Step 1) Start by making the sauce. Add the black bean paste, gochujang, minced garlic, water, sugar, vinegar, sweet soy sauce, and chicken flavor soup base mix into a bowl. If you don't have the soup base you can use chicken bouillon instead, just make sure to adjust the amount of chicken bouillon according to your taste.

Step 2) Give it a good mix for the ingredients to thoroughly combine and set aside.

Step 3) Bring a pot of water to boil. Add the black soybean spaghetti and cook for about 4-5 min on medium heat. Stir occasionally so that the spaghetti doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot.

Step 4) Drain the water from the black soybean spaghetti. Add the butter and cook on medium heat. Give it a stir for the butter to coat the pasta.

Step 5) Mix the sauce in to the pasta and continue cooking for another 2 min. Just stirring enough to coat the pasta with the sauce. Make sure to not over stir the pasta to prevent it from breaking apart.

Step 6) Once the pasta is completely coated with the sauce, remove the pan from heat. Add the sesame oil and give it a good gentle mix.

Step 7) Transfer the pasta to a plate/bowl. Place the mozzarella cheese snacks on of the pasta.

Step 8) Place the black olives on top of the mozzarella cheese snacks to give it an eyeball effect. Your black soybean pasta is complete and ready to serve.

Tips:

*Don't over stir the pasta when cooking to prevent it from breaking apart.
