Glazed Sweet Onion Hawaiian Bread Sliders

I've always been more into sandwiches and burgers. I tried sliders in couple of places but haven't really been hooked on it until I tried glazed Hawaiian bread slider. I really like the sweet and savory flavor of this slider. The Hawaiian bread, which I love snacking on as is, goes perfectly with this recipe. I have made this with different types of deli meat such as turkey and chicken, etc. but personally, I prefer the flavor of ham for this slider recipe. However, please feel free to substitute the ham with your choice of deli meat. I used bacon in this recipe for an extra boost in flavors but it is an optional ingredient, you can leave it out if you want.

This glazed Hawaiian bread sliders is one of my kids favorite as well and have been pretty popular at gathering/potluck. If you aren't much of a slider fan, this recipe may change your mind so give it a try.

Ingredients:

  • 12 Hawaiian Sweet Rolls

  • 24 slices of Sliced Deli Ham (or Chicken/Turkey)

  • 12 slices Swiss Cheese (we recommend Kraft Singles Swiss Cheese)

  • 6 slices of Bacons (optional)

  • ½ cup of Butter (1 stick butter)

  • 4 tbsp of Brown Sugar

  • 1 ½ tbsp of Dijon Mustard

  • 2 tsp of Poppy Seeds

  • 1 tbsp of Worcestershire Sauce

  • 2 Garlic Cloves (minced)

  • 1 Onion (about 1 cup diced)

  • 1/4 tsp of salt

Instructions

1. Fry the bacons until it's cooked. Cut the bacons into quarters (about 1 ½ inches). Save about 1 tbsp of the bacon grease for later use.

2. Cook the diced onion with bacon grease. Add the salt and cook until golden brown.

3. Spray a baking tray with non-stick cooking spray or you can use a silicon baking mat.

4. Separate the Hawaiian sweet rolls and slice in half (horizontally). Use 2/3 of the caramelized onion between the sliders and set aside 1/3 of the caramelized onion for later.

Add the slider layers in the following order: bottom Hawaiian roll, half of Swiss cheese, 2 pieces of hams (folded in quarters), 2 pieces of bacon, caramelized onion, 2nd half of the Swiss cheese, top portion of the Hawaiian roll. Set aside while we make the sauce.

5. On medium heat melt the butter in a pan.

6. Add garlic, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard to the butter and cook until the sauce thicken. It should take about 5 - 8 minutes to make the sauce.

7. Pour the sauce on top of the sliders, you can also use a brush to brush the sauce on the sliders. Try to coat the top of the sliders as evenly as possible.

8. Pre-heat the oven at 350°F. Cover the sliders with aluminum foil and bake for 15 min.

9. Uncover the sliders and bake for an additional 10 min. Take it out of the oven and serve.
